Description

The caption reads "HM2 Gerald Strode, 21, is decorated with the nation's second highest medal. The Navy Cross was presented to Strode by MajGen Donn J. Robertson, commanding general of the 1st Marine Division. Strode received the award for extraordinary heroism under fire in a battle during Operation Swift, September 4, 1967, when he saved the lives of several wounded Marines." Strode was from the 1st Platoon, Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines.
