English: 587Y (1530 Folkestone East Train Road to Canterbury West) passing Ashford International on the Up Fast with DB/Pullman-liveried 67024 leading a rake of Pullman carriages and a standard DB-liveried 67 in the rear.
The train originated in Victoria, headed to Folkestone East via Canterbury East, will reverse at Beechbrook Farm Loop, ~3 miles along the Up Maidstone, and the pass back through Ashford International to head towards Canterbury where it will then head back to Victoria. Realtime Trains doesn't have DB as TOC, and the "Unadvertised Express" note wasn't present, so I was expecting some kind of special freight train... this wasn't in my list of possiblities. It appears this was the "Belmond British Pullman" - a return journey from Victoria to Canterbury, but with the return using the other Canterbury station. This explains why the train was deserted as it passed the photographer, as the passengers were enjoying a visit to Canterbury. |
