I believe there is more reporting going one as we become more educated in the realm of concussions. But I believe w/o question there is a direct correlation to video games, the substantive change in how youth wire their brains because of those games. Video gaming is big business, and like the tobacco industry in the ’60s, there 40seems to be a reluctance to challenge them. The amount of hours athletes sit in front of the TV doing video games during their down time is astonishing. This is true from HS, to the Collegiate ranks and especially in the Pros. I’ve been a HS FB coach since 1979. During those times, I’ve seen two phenomenons take place.
1. Increase heat related issues and the availability of 24 hour access to air conditioning… Where 25-35 years ago that was not the case. There isn’t an urgency to hydrate anymore.
2. Concussions have risen as the popularity of video games have risen.
