I am so sorry for your experiences. Wish I had read this years ago. Followed my long time doctor to MDVIP. The only time I ever attempted to contact for urgent issue I was promptly dismissed with a one word reply. This lack of patient care led to an ongoing full body reaction to a medication, which snowballed in to multiple system issues. I have been treated with disrespect, an incredibly disorganized staff (doctor claims can’t find good help). Many of the services for wellness visit were not performed during Covid. No reduction in fees. There are no nurses to do wellness exam-only NAs. Doctor follow up is just to give blood test results. Nutrition, sleep, mental health, alcohol/drug screening is all just a piece of paper that you fill out on your own. Because I don’t fall asleep while eating or driving (I don’t drive) my sleep screen was normal per doctor, who was shocked when I said I barely get 4 hours/night. $2000.00 a year fo this orivelage. Have been told multi times they don’t have time to call me..

Comment on How Can Docs Talk To Patients About Guns Without Being Sued? by Jean Charis https://physiciansnews.com/2014/11/14/how-doctors-can-talk-to-patients-about-guns-cme-conference/#comment-602374 Tue, 28 Nov 2023 05:48:36 +0000 https://physiciansnews.com/?p=10720#comment-602374 As a mental health provider, I think we must be able to talk about gun safety and storage as much as for loose scatter rugs. Questions about all kinds of safety concerns are part of the care of clients. Certainly it belongs in conversations about depression and possible suicidal ideation. To avoid a question about gun ownership in this context, could be catastrophic if the patients self harms.

Comment on Study: Medical Marijuana Does Not Reduce Prescription Drug or Opioid Use by John Smith https://physiciansnews.com/2023/12/05/study-medical-marijuana-does-not-reduce-prescription-drug-or-opioid-use/#comment-602195 Wed, 16 Aug 2023 11:27:32 +0000 https://physiciansnews.com/?p=278789#comment-602195 After reading the study on medical marijuana and its impact on prescription drug and opioid use, as reported on Physicians News, I find the findings quite thought-provoking. The study’s conclusion that medical marijuana does not significantly reduce prescription drug or opioid use challenges some commonly held beliefs about its potential as an alternative treatment. The article provides a concise overview of the study’s methodology and results, shedding light on the complexity of addressing pain management through medical marijuana. This research contributes to the ongoing dialogue about the role of medical marijuana in healthcare. It’s important that we continue to critically assess the available evidence to make informed decisions about treatment options. Kudos to Physicians News for presenting this study’s results and fostering an informed discussion about medical marijuana’s potential benefits and limitations.

Comment on When a physician may refuse to treat a patient by James Pucciarelli https://physiciansnews.com/2002/02/14/when-a-physician-may-refuse-to-treat-a-patient/#comment-602076 Wed, 19 Jul 2023 12:20:12 +0000 http://clients.ikodum.com/phynews/?p=610#comment-602076 I am currently in pain management for my severe spinal arthritis. I am 65 years old with chronic pain. I was prescribed 50 Mgs.ER of Oxycontin per 12 hours. I have been taking this perscription for the past 4 years and need an increase in my dosage. This has been refused on several requests. Due to not getting an increase I am finding myself in daily painful withdrawal. Even explaining my withdrawals in detail they just won’t increase my doseage. Can I sue my doctor for chronic pain discrimination?

Very great blog that is worth sharing.

We are not referring out to a business we own under another name and different Tax ID and NPI to gain profit under the table. Our physician does it here in the office. We were told as long as it all under the same ID and NPI, we were fine. Can you guide us a little further?

Comment on Physician Owned Physical Therapy Clinics – Avoiding The Impossible Day by Ray Raven MD, MBA, MHCI https://physiciansnews.com/2010/12/13/physician-owned-physical-therapy-clinics-avoiding-the-impossible-day/#comment-601880 Wed, 21 Dec 2022 22:59:26 +0000 https://physiciansnews.com/?p=3777#comment-601880 In reply to Shannon OT.

It sounds like you have a different perspective on physician-owned therapy clinics than I do. It’s understandable that you may have had a negative experience working for a physician-owned therapy clinic, but it’s important to recognize that not all such clinics are the same. It’s possible that some may prioritize profit over patient care, but others may be focused on improving patient outcomes and addressing issues in the healthcare system.

It’s important to consider the benefits that physician-owned therapy clinics can provide, such as enhanced care coordination and the ability to offer bundled services to uninsured or underinsured patients. It’s also important to recognize that all healthcare businesses, including those owned by therapists, have an interest in generating revenue and turning a profit. However, this doesn’t mean that profit should be the sole focus of a healthcare business. It’s important to balance the need for financial sustainability with the goal of providing high-quality care to patients.

Ultimately, the most important thing is to do what is best for patients and to prioritize their needs and well-being. This may involve working with other healthcare providers, including physicians, to coordinate care and achieve consistent, positive outcomes.

Comment on When a physician may refuse to treat a patient by Mandalyn https://physiciansnews.com/2002/02/14/when-a-physician-may-refuse-to-treat-a-patient/#comment-601810 Tue, 22 Nov 2022 20:23:12 +0000 http://clients.ikodum.com/phynews/?p=610#comment-601810 The medication I have been taking for years for ADHD is currently in a national shortage. My provider told me if I’m not working or going to school I don’t need to take this medication any longer. I do have insurance coverage, and don’t owe any money. I explained I have Multiple Sclerosis (in regards of the not currently working question). She then stated that wasn’t her specialty. She then stated if I’m not working or going to school by next month, she will terminate my care and I will need to find a different provider. Is it legal to discontinue a patient’s treatment because their not working or going to school when they have MS?
